Causalgia is the most disastrous neuralgia of the peripheral nerve associated with the incomplete injury of the neve. It was described first by Mitchell, Morehouse, Keen in 1864, and many excellent studies were published abut it throuph the 2nd world war.
In our country, we have encountered numerous Causalgic syndromes through the Korean war & war in Vietnam.
Choice of the treatment for it admitted now is the preganglionic Sympathectomy. We have peformea sympathectomy on 11 cases of 12 caulgia cases and have obtained satisfactory results.
1) Among 12 cases of causalgia, 8 were missile wounds, 3 were shell fragment wounds and then one case was the contusion
2) There were 4 Brachial plaxus injuries, 3 Sciatic n injuries, 3 median n. injuries f and one ulnar n. injury, lumba-sacral plexst injury respectively.
3) Of 12 cases, 11 cases were treated with sympathectomies and one case was treated with neurolysis.
4) The result of sympathectomy was excellent 73% and good 27%, Further surgical approach after the sympathectomy was not thought to be necessary in our series.
